Learner Profiles
Dzidzorli Obeng is a civil servant who has been using computers to surf the web, read email, buy items online and for social networking websites. Learning programming would allow Dzidzorli Obeng to more efficiently use computers for daily tasks and be able to put information online at work without relying on extensive assistance from the information technology department.
Haniah Tamakloe is a shopkeeper. Keeping records of stocks of items and receipts is taking a significant portion of Haniah’s time. Haniah wants to use Scheme to automate as much of this as possible so more time is left to spend with people including family, friends, staff and customers. Haniah has had a previous programming course in school, but has forgotten most of it. Currently Haniah uses computers to interact with the government, most other tasks can be accomplished on Haniah’s tablet.
Majid Quansah is a school teacher. Programming is now integrated into the curriculum, so can be used in all subjects. Scheme can run on a wide range of devices and is an easily extensible language. Majid wishes to use Scheme for document processing tasks in history and literature classes. Majid also wishes to use Scheme to automate grading of assignments and to keep track of student performance.
